Upgrading to sky+?

I currently have the standard box with 1 multiroom (bedroom). I rang them up to upgrade the main standard in the living room to a Sky+ and keep the standard in the bedroom. They said it’s £99 for the box and I paid over the phone and they are coming Saturday to install it. I just had a letter with the costs that I have to pay the enginner on the day:

* Brackets to heighten dish position (incl labour) – £29.99
* Patio/pole mount for garden installation (incl labour) – £29.99
* Coaxical cable from dish to sky box (if over 20 metres) – £0.50 per metre
* Telephone cable from Sky box to telephone socket (if over 10 metres) – £0.50 per metre
* TV link with remote eye (incl labour) – £85.00
* Straps to attach dish to chimmey (incl labour) – £39.99

Where the hell did all this come from?
My mum just read the letter and it basically said additional costs that may come up. In majority don’t pay it was just an outline of what may be expected lol. I feel a fool.

god knows but wen we had sky+ installed we just phoned them up and cancelled then you join again and get free installation

Two Way
What should I do two different sets of ANOVA, or is there a way to combine this?

I fluorecence measurement in cells. Volume 5 readings a condition (the exposure to a peptide). However, since I have another duplicate experiment 5 readings. Should I make two separate ANOVAs or there is a way to combine them?

That was long ago, but when I did my statistics Psych remember I had more than one variable and used a MANOVA (analysis multivariate variance), so worth looking up? Not sure if you are the same, but google is worth perhaps good luck, do not envy you: o)

Five Lnb
How many cables go into your house from the HD Directv Satellite dish.?

I currently have standard definition tv with DVR. I already have it set up so the two required cables come through outlets in the wall. I know the DTV HD satellite is referred to as five LNB. Does that mean there’s five cables?

Thanks

Hi Sean,

I agree with fifty.

There is only one cable.

are using a Direct TV satellite to broadcast FTA illegal?

im using an old satellite that we live for a couple of years and now have no service even more but the satellite is still there .. is using a program of FTA (Free To Air), for example, Coolsat, Pansat, Viewsat or illegal?

Free air is not illegal, piracy is codes. To receive FTA channels should have a box like the view sonic Coolsat, Pansat, etc and attach it to a dish for DISH Network. I am not familiar with the use of DTV equipment installation TLC locally, go to http://sathookup.com/network-network/map.php for local satellite installers

Bracket Adapter
Which one of these external HDD enclosures would you buy?

VANTEC Nexstar3 NST-360SU-BL (a.k.a. Welland ME-740J)

http://www.vantecusa.com/p_nst360su_bl.html

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817392002

http://www.welland.com.tw/html/enclosure/x40.html

$30 in Newegg, bracket included, supports up to 750GB

Rosewill RX353-S

http://www.rosewill.com/Product/product.aspx?productId=502

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817173040

Internal fan (reviews are ambivalent though), compact power adapter, bracket included; up to 500GB.

The OKGEAR OK350AU2S1-K looks like any other enclosure, except that it claims to support up to 1TB.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16817348016

I already have a 320GB drive that I’ll mount in, and am more concerned about portability (therefore the Rosewill AC adapter seems interesting).

Happy holidays!

depends on if you were planning on going up to a tb in the near future. newegg reviews are some of the most reliable i have found on the web so i would go with the best rated on there depending on the space i needed. that said i would go with the OKGEAR, if portability is a must then i would go with the rosewill, i personally would never see a reason to run around with more than 500 gb of stuff so the rosewill would be fine. good luck.

Shield Video
how can i connect regular big speakers to an ipod nano?

I bought a set of KLH speakers. They are about 12 in height by 6 in lenght. The specifications on the back read:
Frequency response : 80Hz – 20kHz
Use with 5 to 100 watt amplifiers
Average impedance : 8 ohms
Magnetically shielded for video
I would like to know if it is possible to connect these type of speakers to my ipod nano, and if so what do i need and how do I do this. Somebody please save my day!

Just go to RadioShack, and ask if they have a wire/adapter (or combination) for what you want to do. I guarantee they have it. Try to find the smartest looking salesperson though, just in case.

You could look for yourself too. You want something that will go from a 3.5mm jack, to a speaker wire. And if you want the wire to stretch a long way, determine that too. That’s basically all you need to know.

Tuner Card
What is the best Free TV tuner software to use with an ATI 550 Theater PCI card?

I have an ATI 550 Theater TV Tuner Card, and am looking for the simplest, free, Tuner (and maybe capture) software to use. I had Beyond TV for a short spell, but the trial ran out.

Hm.. that is really difficult but here are some ideas. I am not sure if any of them works though.

- The card may have come with a tuning/capture software for the card. I don’t know if it actually works but give it a shot if the CD included a program for that or ATI’s website can let you download one.

- Windows Media Center. I am not sure if the particular card is compatible with it. Some tuner cards are and some others are not. But Media Center should work if your card is compatible with Media Center AND if the input to your card is either analog (cable or over the air) or an over the air digital antenna.

- Other free programs that seem to work with some tuners with some input signal types but may require extensive workarounds include:
GB-PVR (http://www.softpedia.com/get/Multimedia/Video/Video-Recording/GB-PVR.shtml) and TSReader.

Good luck!

Grounding Strap
How important is that a ground wire to a car stereo be strapped to metal?

I recently installed a new stereo in my car. (More specifically, a Sony CDX-GT610UI in 1999 Mazda 626 with speakers and component values.) Among the tangle of cables connected to the back of the stereo a ground wire was pretty short, which, according to the instructions, I could feel free to link to any metal screw near my car. Unfortunately, not seem to have a screw hole to reach the cable. For the moment, I decided to secure the wire to a metal stand with a little duct tape. My question is: Is this correct? The grounding cable must be secured with a metal screw or bolt to do its job? Or will it work fine with some electrical tape? Does anyone have suggestions on where to find a bolt hole that will work?

Grounding is very important for the protection and proper functioning of the unit. You can use tape "bridging" a long cable to reach a screw. It is important to know that for proper grounding to the chassis ground should the car. Its battery ground to chassis is also based car. You can use a self drilling screw grounded to the firewall of your car, but be careful when choosing a place that is free of any other vital cables or hoses. Justt recording is not a lasting solution of good luck and happy melodies
