Converter Digital
Why does the digital converter work better than the digital tv itself?

I bought a new digital tv with HD. When I connect a regular rabbit ear antenna to it, it only picks up some channels and even those freeze and blank out, etc.

so i connected a digital converter box to the digital tv (because it seemed to work fine on an analog tv I had) and it works fine Though its not as crisp as i know the hd tv would show.

why does it work better with the converter box attached to it when its already an hd tv?

No idea, unless your local stations are still broadcasting in both digital and analog. This will end before too long if they are. I’m thinking you are picking up analog signals on your converter box.

Digital signals are more sensitive and directional than the old analog signals were. Many people who could receive over the air analog signals can’t get digital signals. You can look into upgrading your antenna to a rooftop model. Here is a site that tells you, based on your individual house address, what strength antenna you need to buy, or even if it will work at all at your address.

The other option is to get cable service. To fully enjoy your HD television, you will need to subscribe to the cable company’s “digital tier” as the basic cable will not look any better than the old analog TV; it may even look worse.
