"I can switch to DirecTV HD receiver and still use current dish and get HD channels, or have to get new dish?

Directv customer currently with a standard service. I have a 3 LNB dish, but I bought a new HDTV, so I want to get HD, but installing the said technology non line of sight. They said I need to switch to a 5 LNB dish. Is it really necessary to change course, or I can use the high definition receiver with my existing antenna? I have understood that the main satellites in March I'm pulling the main signal are needed for HD signals … and the other 2 satellites are for local channels in HD. Help?

3 is the min. HD, and 5 is necessary for high-definition local. However, with 3 you can use an antenna and get the same channels. A new dish is usually necessary if you want all the HD channels DTV offers because of bandwidth consumption. It's like watching streaming video online, dial up vs high speed, high-speed custom need for buffering. The dish will set you back only $ 100 + install, but if only want their basic package of high definition, the current plate is fine.
