Can a digital converter box pull in digital cable channels?

I have (very) basic cable so no boxes on televisions (all units analog). I know there are other over the air digital channels in my area. 6-2, 10-1, 10-2, 10-3, etc. If my cable company is broadcasting them, will converter box to collect them and display them on my computer?

(This answer is found in the U.S.)> is a converter box to collect and display on my computer? Coupon No. type converters are designed to receive broadcasts wirelessly only. They were designed specifically to not receive the type of digital signals used by major cable companies. Over the air broadcasts use ATSC digital. Major cable companies use to channel QAM digital. New TVs must have ATSC tuners. Most also have QAM tuners, but are not obliged to take them. Some people have found that basic cable systems including digital transmissions of their local stations. But you need a QAM "digital tuner to receive these cable channels. Some recorders DVD includes a QAM tuner. There is no coupon "converter / tuners" that have ATSC and QAM tuners, but to hunt on the Internet.

Will a DTV converter box to replace the cable service?

I hate to pay so much for cable TV every month! I just need news channels (local). If I get a converter box and cancel my cable, can I see clear local channels?

It depends on how far you are away from the transmission tower and good antenna system you have. Here is the place to realize that. http://www.antennaweb.org/aw/welcome.aspx

Why not my job analog converter box in Grand Rapids MI?

We tried, and religious stations receive only about 4 of them and that's all. Yes I attached an antenna to the TV. Now it would make a difference if the apartment is partially underground, the lack of a better word. Thank you.

You may need a box (even outside) of the antenna. Or you may have to direct your antenna to a different address. Check www.antennaweb.org

Will using a DTV Converter with analog cable let me receive more digital channels?

I have one TV with digital cable box and another using analog cable where no box is needed. If I use a DTV converter with the analog cable, will it let me receive some of the extra digital exclusive channels I already have on my other set?
(Hope I am explaining this correctly)

No. The converter box is only for receiving DTV signals over-the-air, with an antenna. Analog cable systems transmit analog TV signals (duh) and will continue to do so after the digital transition is completed in June. Your converter box won’t do a thing when hooked up to analog cable.

Why does the digital converter work better than the digital tv itself?

I bought a new digital tv with HD. When I connect a regular rabbit ear antenna to it, it only picks up some channels and even those freeze and blank out, etc.

so i connected a digital converter box to the digital tv (because it seemed to work fine on an analog tv I had) and it works fine Though its not as crisp as i know the hd tv would show.

why does it work better with the converter box attached to it when its already an hd tv?

No idea, unless your local stations are still broadcasting in both digital and analog. This will end before too long if they are. I’m thinking you are picking up analog signals on your converter box.

Digital signals are more sensitive and directional than the old analog signals were. Many people who could receive over the air analog signals can’t get digital signals. You can look into upgrading your antenna to a rooftop model. Here is a site that tells you, based on your individual house address, what strength antenna you need to buy, or even if it will work at all at your address.

The other option is to get cable service. To fully enjoy your HD television, you will need to subscribe to the cable company’s “digital tier” as the basic cable will not look any better than the old analog TV; it may even look worse.

How many analog to digital converter boxes will I need?

I have a split cable signal to 3 TV’s in my house. Two of the 3 TV’s have cable set-top boxes (no issue there). The third (analog) TV is connected to cable, but without a cable box. Will I need a converter box for this TV even though it had a direct cable connection without a box?

The digital converters boxes are ONLY for Over-the-Air TV broadcasts NOT cable TV. For cable nothing will change for now.

The cable company will inform you when and if you need to get a cable TV converter box for cable digital broadcasts. Then you will get one from the cable company to receive cable digital signals.

The Over-The-Air converter boxes do NOT work with cable TV.

Do I need a converter box , if i buy a “TV TUNER CARD”! ?

It’s for my laptop. I want to watch basic tv channels like nbc, abc. that’s it.

I don’t pay for tv. But recently I heard you have to buy a converter box , if you want to watch tv anymore. That’s why I am asking this question.

Do i need to buy a converter box? ( analog -digital )
if i want to use a tv tuner card on my laptop to watch few free channels?
please help !

Any tuner card you buy today will have a digital tuner; no converter box will be needed for antenna.

Where can I get a cable to connect my DTV converter to my LCD computer monitor?

RCA at one end of this cable to feed into a digital DVI monitor at the other end.
Does RCA output from the new convert er box interface to VGA on my LCD monitor if there is a cable to connect these devices? Help me simplify these gadgets!

What kind of video card do you have and does it have any other inputs?

I’ve found this: http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat%5Fid=2816&sku=40320 but it’s HDMI to DVI, not composite (RCA) to DVI.
