Directv Dish
Why will my Directv dish not pick up my service outside?

I am trying to test my dish out before I take it to a tailgate. I have one on the house but I also have a spare. For some reason I cannot get the spare one to work. I can get a faint signal but not lasting. Does Directv have some kind of thing that makes you buy a tripod to make it work? Do you have any ideas?

Its possible the LNB (the white knob) is failing or the dish has not been pointed correctly, Directv has dish pointing directions on their website at direct.com/dishpoint. You may want to consider using that to make sure the correct azimuth and elevation are being used, especially if you are traveling outside of your current zip code than it will be important to get the correct corridents.

Directv Remote
Does anyone know the code for DirecTV remote for LG to use the Input button ?

I just bought a LG TV. and I want to use the remote from DirecTV to change the Input on the TV. Does anyone know the remote code ?

Assuming you have a greyish white remote control with a mode slider switch at the top, these are the instructions:

1. Move your mode switch to TV at the top of your remote
2. Press and hold both the MUTE and SELECT buttons at the same time. Continue to hold them until the green light by the mode switch flashes twice in a row.
3. Release the MUTE and SELECT and enter the following code: 960
4. You should see 2 more green flashes
5. Press your TV Input button to test it.
6. When you’ve confirmed it works, move your mode switch back to DirecTV.

The TV input button will now work while the mode switch is in DirecTV mode.

Is there a way to use a receiver DIRECTV HD local reception without a subscription?

I'm trying to use my friends extra hd directv box and when it was created, which will search the local channels and locks on them, however, not shown. Instead, it shows that the subscriber # and tells me that the card is not activated. Is there any way around this?

No, no. Older DirecTV receivers were well, but since DirecTV subsidized the cost of receivers, who did not want people to buy the receivers not subscribed to DirecTV DirecTV leaving never to recover their claims through the subscription costs. The new DirecTV receiver only now are rented so you get your computer back to cancel these days. I sell on eBay this box if you do not want to subscribe. Then buy an old Voom box as many who receive terrestrial HD yet, if they were still active when bought dish. They can be had on eBay for a reasonable price.

What do I do with old cable/satellite boxes?

I recently switched satellite providers, and I now have 4 receiver boxes (and remotes) left over from my previous provider. The new installer told me I could keep them in case I ever wanted to switch back to the original provider … but if I did, wouldn’t they just give me new receivers for free anyway?

Anything else I should do with them … maybe donate? Seems a waste to just toss them, but that might be the only option!

There IS a MARKET for such things on ebay, or craigslist (local listings) or, if you don’t want to mess around, you can list them under FREE, on CRAIGSLIST.ORG, and I’ll bet some GRATEFUL person will come over PROMPTLY and pick them up.

I also, hate to see things go to waste, and it is FAR BETTER to have someone get some use out of them, and it might just make their day !

And, what a thoughtful thing to do.

Currently I have a Directv hd receiver, Can I replace it with a hd dvr receiver?

Basically, I want to buy an hd dvr receiver from a friend and not go through DirectV because they are charging too much to sell their HD DVR Receiver with fees, installations, etc…. Also In addition, all I would have to do is pay for the dvr service?

yes its possible. now the next steps:
1. is your friend currently using the hd dvr? meaning does he have an active account with directv and the hd dvr is part of his account? if it is, he needs to contact dtv first and deactivate that receiver.
2. you have to call dtv and order a new access card for the receiver. its also for your own protection. because if there are unbilled pay per views on the original access card, they will get charged to you.
3. if the hd dvr will be a replacement, you need to call dtv and deactivate your hd receiver. because if you won’t, your hd receiver will be counted as an additional receiver in your account ($4.99). anyways, once your hd is deactivated, the new charge on your bill will only be the dvr charge of $5.99/month

Is it a crime in California in exchange for another dish alignment?

I live in an apartment building and have a DirecTV dish on the roof. The approved owner of the facility and the roof is not part of any department. Our upstairs neighbor (it is a two-story building, so that the plate is above its floor) has risen twice and misaligned roof plate. Can you be prosecuted? We're in Berkeley, Alameda County, California.

In a bizarre case I think could rise to the level of vandalism.

Directv separator 'fried' due to a lightning strike?

When lightning strikes close to home is (or tree) 'of the FRY "Zinwell 3X4 18V-13V Splitter (that happened twice). The installer put a foreign land from the "power meter to the splitter. I think the 'surge beam travels through the grounding wires and fry the Zinwell splitter. How Can this be fixed? are expensive and often end up taking several days to obtain a replacement through email. Easy 10pts?

You can find another reason if you wish. Try to find a water pipe near his home that runs on the floor, not the house. That works. Or if you have a gas gauge, you should find a home ground from the house and ground to that. Some people do not feel comfortable with connection ground to a gas pipe (including me), but the builders seem to do often. Another way is to find out where the local cable company is running coaxial cable to your home, usually by a power meter, and opening the plastic box. There should be a green wire coming out of the house there. I hope one of these ideas help.

Does Directv do credit checks?

Do they actually pull your credit report and look at it or not? I heard that they approve everyone. They only take your social security number to check if you ever been a Directv customer before or not. Is that true?

I have a collection on my credit history from an apartment complex I used to live in last year, and worried Directv might reject me if they do credit checks.

Yes Directv does do credit checks..However..if you have really bad credit..the will just make you pay a down deposit..which when I was working there..the deposit was credit back to your account in like monthly credit of $10 a month..every month..not sure if they still do that! I have never heard of Directv ever rejecting anyone from service you might just have to pay a deposit..call and check! It wont hurt!

My job DIRECTV satellite dish with a universal recipient?

Well, I have a 3 bedroom DIRECTV dish I like to use with a receiver universal so you can pick up free channels. Will it work? or I have to get a new dish. theoretical responses are cool because I do not know the number model or any other specific information. Okay, I have a directv dish 3 quarters I'd like to use with a universal receiver, so you can pick up free channels. Will it work? or I have to get a new dish. theoretical responses are cool because I do not know the model number or any other specific information …. Im looking for outdoor use with satellite channels a satellite receiver universal, non-local frequencies. thanks

No, it will not work at all. His plate only receive the DirecTV signal, not over the air channels. To do that you need to get a standard antenna, either to ride on top your TV or on the roof. ETA: Even if you are searching for satellite signals that are free, your antenna will not work because of low noise blocker (LNB) which has its plate. They block out all the noise is not a DirecTV satellite.
