Plus Dvr
Does anyone know of a way to keep more than 100 hours worth of shows with a Direct TV Plus DVR?

We bought one of these recently, but is keen to keep some programs permanently. Is there a way to transfer them to a computer or a DVD?

I recommend buying a DVD recorder. Simply connect your DVR to the DVD recorder and record what shows you want. What do all the time and easy. I will give you a link to look at some prices. I have HD DVR and large DirecTVs discs. Just make sure you write to the same input configuration. The manual with the DVD recorder you buy explain that.

Directv Receiver
Is there a way to use a receiver DIRECTV HD local reception without a subscription?

I'm trying to use my friends extra hd directv box and when it was created, which will search the local channels and locks on them, however, not shown. Instead, it shows that the subscriber # and tells me that the card is not activated. Is there any way around this?

No, no. Older DirecTV receivers were well, but since DirecTV subsidized the cost of receivers, who did not want people to buy the receivers not subscribed to DirecTV DirecTV leaving never to recover their claims through the subscription costs. The new DirecTV receiver only now are rented so you get your computer back to cancel these days. I sell on eBay this box if you do not want to subscribe. Then buy an old Voom box as many who receive terrestrial HD yet, if they were still active when bought dish. They can be had on eBay for a reasonable price.

Directv Receiver
Currently I have a Directv hd receiver, Can I replace it with a hd dvr receiver?

Basically, I want to buy an hd dvr receiver from a friend and not go through DirectV because they are charging too much to sell their HD DVR Receiver with fees, installations, etc…. Also In addition, all I would have to do is pay for the dvr service?

yes its possible. now the next steps:
1. is your friend currently using the hd dvr? meaning does he have an active account with directv and the hd dvr is part of his account? if it is, he needs to contact dtv first and deactivate that receiver.
2. you have to call dtv and order a new access card for the receiver. its also for your own protection. because if there are unbilled pay per views on the original access card, they will get charged to you.
3. if the hd dvr will be a replacement, you need to call dtv and deactivate your hd receiver. because if you won’t, your hd receiver will be counted as an additional receiver in your account ($4.99). anyways, once your hd is deactivated, the new charge on your bill will only be the dvr charge of $5.99/month

Definition Receiver
I am thinking of getting a high definition receiver from my cable company…..?

I am just wondering how much better hd is rather then just regular digital cable. What are the advantages and is it worth paying more money for? Also are there any websites that might show pictures comparing hd to regular digital cable.

If you have a real HDTV not an EDTV or HD Compatible TV the difference is astounding. It is as clear as a theater and the sound is awsome if you have a surround sound system connected to it. Remember that the connection is very important. The best connection is HDMI then DVI then component then svideo then RCA then cable. For sound it is HDMI then optical then RCA.

Need to hook up PS3 to HDTV. TV does not have HDMI hookup, but I have High Def DirecTV. Can I have PS3 in HD?

Can I use a component video cable and some kind of adapter through my digital video output from my PS3? The TV comes in High Definition, but only up to 1080i. There is a DVI slot in the back of my TV that isn’t being used and also a HDMI output on my DirecTV HD-DVR receiver.

Is it even possible to hook up my PS3 in High Def? I can’t use the HDMI cable, because I have no HDMI inputs on the TV or DirecTV receiver, only an output on the receiver.

Yes the PS3 is in high-definition. And if you have an HDTV, you’d want to get the best quality out of your PS3. Since you don’t have an HDMI port, I suggest you buy some component cables for the PS3. The PS3 does work with them and I’m sure your t.v. will take them too. Check these cables out:

They will have as clear quality as HDMI.

High Def
What if you connect a high definition TV with standard cables?

For example, an Emerson 32 "Class LCD HDTV, LC320EM9. I connect with a wire cable normal time Warner Cable. Now I do not mind watching TV in high definition for only the most that will come in a normal TV. One dealer told me that the image is terrible, but my friend says he has one it is the same as an old television. I want everything to play Xbox in High Def.

One thing to consider is whether you will see a lot of television programming. The Xbox be in High Def, provided that the use of component or HDMI cables (not sure Xbox has). To begin, Emerson does not have large TVs, so I look around. To see if Best Buy (or a going-out-of-business Circuit City) has any removal or open TV Box. Most of these sets were returned after a day or two due to size limitations, people like you who did not like his programming SD HD screen, or have been used as display models. Contrary to popular belief, more open TV Box not been used much, but they look terrible sitting in the sales floor, get prices reduced by 10-15% good. If you have a cable box, try to sing composite (or s-video or component, if possible) instead of cables coaxial. If you do not have a box, then you can always adjust the image settings to 4:3 instead of widescreen 16:9 ratio. This help clean the image. If you can do this, the default setting for the TV input, and allow entry of Xbox in 16:9 widescreen, then it will be problem free to switch between they.
