What heart healthy dishes can I make for a super bowl party?
Including chili recipes please. I make fantastic blue ribbon Texas chili, my family recipe, but it’s too spicey for my guy….. which he wants me to make this Sunday….. but I prefer to make heart healthy dishes. What dishes could I make, and if you have the recipe, please share. Thanks
Just make your chili a little less spicy. Contrary to Alvaro’s sarcastic, less-then-helpful, remark, there are many very tasty, heart healthy dishes. I eat heart healthy ALL the time, and my meals are fit for company. You could make 2 kinds of chili, your Texas style with beef, and the Mexican style with beans and ground turkey (instead of beef). Again, go easy on the cayenne pepper, and it’ll have a bite to it, but won’t be too hot.
Here’s how I make mine:
CHILI
I like doing it in a slow cooker (crockpot), but, of course on top of the stove is fine. And I buy organic beans which don’t seem to come in the large cans, so my cans are about the size of an average can of baked beans, corn, etc. Adjust ingredients based on how many you’re cooking for and what you want left over. For larger amounts, you may want to add more crushed tomatoes, or a sm.- med. can of tom. sauce, or a can of tom. paste. If you use paste, be sure to add a little more water.
Here’s mine (I don’t do much measuring, so common sense must prevail)
? ground beef (or turkey)
? lg. can crushed tomatoes
? cumin
? cayenne pepper (to taste)
? parsley
? chili powder (be generous)
? chopped onion
? chopped green peppers
? fresh crushed garlic (2 cloves)
? 2-3 cans dark red kidney beans (drained and rinsed)
? 2 can’s black beans (drained and rinsed)
? can of chickpeas (I use these when I’m making a vegetarian version)
(you can certainly use JUST kidney beans)
Brown and drain you ground turkey (no draining with gr. turkey). In a med. to large pot or in the crockpot, mix the meat and the rest of the ingredients together. This is where I might add another dash cayenne and some more chili powder. You may also need to add a little water for consistency… your choice. Simmer for a few hours on top of the stove, stirring occasionally. If in a crockpot, cook for about 4 hours. No need to stir at all when using a crockpot.
Here’s another healthy and delicious dish I make that would work. It’s SUPER simple. For faster cooking and easier serving, you could even cut the chicken breast pieces in strips. I put use the whole skinless breast halves. You can certainly make this in a large batch.
CHICKEN & ZUCCHINI WITH SALSA
boneless, skinless chicken breasts
green pepper (cut in strips)
onion (sliced thin)
zucchini (sliced and cut in quarters)
jar of your favorite salsa
Put the chicken in a baking dish, put the peppers, onions and zucchini on top. Pour salsa over all.
Bake at 350 deg. F (175 C) for about an hour. You can cut into the check to check it. Spoon juices over during cooking a few times.
There you have it. If you like, you can buy the shredded reduced fat Mexican cheese mix to sprinkle over it. About 5 minutes before chicken is done, sprinkle the cheese over the top of the entire baking dish. Take out when it’s melted and starts to brown.
Serve lite sour cream on the side to have with both chili dishes and the chicken and zuchinni dish. Of course put the sour cream in a serving dish… no one will know it’s the lite version. I’d consider putting a bowl of tortilla chips on the table too. I’ve found some wonderful whole grain ones.
Have fun!

I am wiring my house with 5 bedrooms and running about 700 feet of coaxial cable. I was in the HDTV store and saw nominal RG-6. That advertising is fair? was about $ 50 extra for every 500 feet. Is it worth it compared to standard RG-6. Television nominal high definition quad shielded coaxial was … I speed up the extra cash and get the best quality cable?
thing thats coaxial cables RG, which implied that all the same! RG-6 is supposed to be copper center conductor of clothes and a "Belfoil and outer conductor braid. With the foil, no need of a braid of 97%, the role of coat is 100%. Just be sure to use an F type connector quality … this is usually going below the cheaper cables. Do not buy a rip off coaxial place like Best Buy, but buying in bulk in Parts Express or MCM Electronics. They sell quality.

Is it possible to combine pay tv satellite signals and terrestrial tv signals into one coaxial cable?
I have pay tv (foxtel via satellite) and a terrestrial tv antenna. I have only one coaxial cable between my tv and the point that the antenna / satellite cables enter the house. Since the signals are on completely different bandwidths I was hoping I might be able to use the one coaxial cable to run both terrestrial and satellite signals to the tv / foxtel box. Any thoughts?
NOT recommended….interference patterns, plus the DC voltage can cripple/damage the antennas BALUN…it’s REAL hair thin wire…..
And it is a MUST HAVE to connect the Antenna to a Coaxial line.
Now you can contact your Satellite Provider and they have a special splitter that COMBINES and SEPARATES the two signals…..just call them and let them know what you’re doing and they can send a Sat-Tech out with the proper parts……
Of course, there is minor degradation in both signals…..
