How about a high speed train from New York to Chicago?
China is building a high speed train from Bejing to Shanghai which is a little bit longer.
When completed the trip is to take about 5 hours.
@Nick: The old question of demand vs. supply or “what was first: chicken or egg?”
Who wants to travel with trains that are comparatively slow (if they exist, in the first placel)? Wouldn’t there be more people willing to use trains if ther was a convenient railway-network?
As for travel times: Modern high speed trains have top speeds of more than 200mph – so New York-Chicago would be around 4 hours. From city centre to city centre!
The flight might only take two hours, but airports usually are not located directly in the city. Also add time for checkin/checkout…
Another advantage is the trains possibility to pick up passengers under way, that would otherwise have to travel detours.
Need help with making Ethernet cable (TIA / EIA 568B)?
Lost 6 8CPC (RJ-45) and shots. I know I'm doing well. Orange White, orange, green, white, blue, white, blue, green, white brown, brown. And I'm placing correctly in making left to right (looking from the bottom of the socket). But it works! Do not have a cable tester, because I see no point just to tell her the sun and still have to start all over again if a chain Copper does not make the cut. But I'm thinking in the back of my head now, "it is a 568A?" But the 568 says CAT5E cable. And no CAT5E consider a 568B? Therefore, I think I have everything right so far. Think it's because when I take off my jacket I could have accidentally cut one of the copper wires in an accident, Microscopic as a small scratch? Also, I found this cable in a dumpster behind a school. You think I probably ran all the left-through cable with a self-destruct mechanism that no one else is able to use the cable? Thanks for your help.
From what has reported to have the correct order. 568A and 568B function exactly the same as long as you use the same standard to both ends. From experience, usually microscopic scratches do not loose connectivity altogether. I really would have had to reduce or severely weaken one of the wires to achieve that. And as far as I know, there is no reason (or even computers for that matter) to intentionally destroy a network cable before discarding. However, there are two possibilities: 1. The cable was broken lines in it to begin with why it was discarded. 2. Network Cable, cable, especially old, does not like to be relocated. If you feel a certain way for a while then remove and try to fold differently than before, some of the wires inside can decide to break as soon as it highlights the different experience. It is basically the effects of a prolonged fatigue cycle. You take a risk every time you try to reuse old cable. 3. The frame you are using is to break the wires. Some ends are specially designed for twisted cables while some are designed for solid wire. Using the wrong type of connector can mess you up. Also if you are old cable break could also just being crimped. The best suggestion I can give is get a new cable. If you are totally in making this cable work, and will not get a line tester, should at least get a cheap multimeter and check individually for each thread of continuity before hitting the ends. But with the old cable there is no guarantee that will not break after the fact, even after the success of the curvature, if you do this. Good luck!

What negative loss value in test result means that when I am using the fiber tester FLUKE in SM and MM fiber optics?
Some Sometimes I'm using the Fluke tester fiber optic multimode and singlemode fiber optic cables sometimes pass very well, but sometimes the "loss of negative value in the test results "appear and still seems to happen, but I do not understand why if you spend it that this" negative ", as shown in my test results and still do not know how to avoid it. I would appreciate any help. Thanks Philippe
If this is anything like the results I've seen before, this means that the filtering of light in the fiber path. It can be caused by isolation breached.

Fiber optic cable tester wheres a good place to order and what do I need?
We just installed some fiber optic cable for my school and we need to test all the strands of fiber. I’m getting signal on all 6 strands but we want to know how much signal loss is involved.
If your looking for something that test optical loss testing in both Multimode and Singlemode we purchased a zoom 2 tester it was a very inexpensive fiber optic cable tester I think we paid $400 for the price it has a lot of options. My favorite is how can store reference values for all of its calibrated wavelengths, and displays optical power as an absolute value in dBm or relative to a user set “zero” reference in dB.
Bought ours from this place 2 years ago and it works good as new.
Gene M. – Everything is made of a very durable and strong plastic, includes a nice carrying case so you can keep everything locked up and taken care of.
