A little more information will help a fair bit. The first question presented would be the type of separator is? 2 way, 3 way, etc. And what is the power splitter 5-500 MHz, 5-1 GHz so it sounds the information they have provided so far is that it seems like you have maybe one of two problems, maybe both. Some modems allow you to go to; 192.168.100.1 to see the signal strength on the modem. You must have a transmission of about> 40 dBmV or <50 dBmV and dBmV receiving <10 and>-10dBmV. However, this tends to vary from provider to provider so it is not insured in case of doubt, I would recommend calling your provider and with them a book called problem for you. It won’t happen with just a splitter, as it carries the exact same signal from the wire you are splitting, to the other 2 wires.
You need a switchbox, a graphics card (like Nvidia) that has multi-monitor support, or run 2 separate lines, and dump the splitter altogether. If you have just one VGA out, this may not be an option. Most newer cards have 2 DVI outs, so it may be time to upgrade.
