driving accross country in a volvo turbo 1994 wagon, want to make up a tool kit any suggestions?
its about 3000 miles round trip and although the car is in good shape something is bound to happen.i do have AAA,but would like to have some basics on hand.i don’t work on cars so i’m at a loss.its.my first volvo and i know they need a special mechanic so maybe i should include something that would never cross my mind?suggestions appreciated.or any tips on anything else that you found useful on a long trip i may not have thought of.thanks
several things to purchase would be a haynes manual a good set of metric 1/4 and 3/8 drive sockets and ratchets and extensions for both some screwdrivers and a decent pair of pliers and a set of metric combination end wrenches [sears "craftsmen" tool are always good quality and are reasonable]
next item would be a cheap air compressor that plugs into the ciggarete lighter and dont forget a mid level first aid kit
for spares : a water pump/belt a alternator belt and a thermostat and seal ring
while my list sounds excessive the inconvienance of a breakdown can be minimized if the proper tools parts and knowlage[in book form at least] is available
good luck have a safe “nonevent” trip
